What was the Kzinti ship that had in it's ship description that if you won with it, you were a pretty good player? I thought it was the cruiser hull in Basic Set, but can't remember the name. _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

Don't remember that comment in a ship description.
The ship you are referring to is the Strike Cruiser. It was eventually upgraded into the Battlecruiser. A slight upgrade of it was the Heavy Cruiser (used on the Federation Border prior to the Battlecruiser design). _________________

I vaguely remember it from the doomsday edition. Maybe it was in the intro paragraph to the Kzintis. It described the ships as being made to fight each other and basically sucking against everyone else, then said something along the lines of if you could win with the strike cruiser you were doing pretty good. Something about the ship didn't have refits, poor phaser design, weak drone racks, etc.
Wording was nothing like that of course _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

The comment wasn't about any particular ship, but was back in the Z2.0 Advice on Tactics section, "Captains who can win with Kzinti ships have earned some bragging rights."
I always agreed with that for early Kzinti ships using speed eight and twelve drones. Then I met a player who loved that quote, loved playing Kzinti, but also only loved playing them in the late war era if he could use speed 32 drones, and hopefully get by without paying the cost for the speed upgrades. If he couldn't play Kzinti with all of their upgrades, he would only play with Federation ships.
His attitude through it all spoiled the quote a little, but I still enjoy playing with early Kzinti ships that really have to watch how they use their drones. |

Slow drones and LF/RF distrupters, took some patience to work around that. Especially against Feds. |

Yep that's the quote.
The poor phaser coverage, slow drones, A-racks instead of C-racks, and RF/LF disruptors made for some huge disadvantages. _________________ Speed is life; Patience is victory

But when you could pull it together to win, it was really cool.
It's funny, we've run the Kzinti civil war campaign a few times, but haven't been able to run through it with the early years ships very far yet. Life keeps getting in the way. It's always been a lot of fun to play. |
