Hey all. It has been a while since I've been here, but I just got a book that is worthy of mentioning.
I just got a digital copy of the SFB Federation Master Starship Book, and it is simply the coolest product I have yet seen. Having the info on every ship currently made for SFB is awesome, and some of the info will translate to FC. I never played SFB, so being able to learn about the different ship classes is very awesome. I just wanted to give kudos to the ADB team, and say I hope they keep this up. I will buy every one of these books they put out, definetly in pdf and maybe even in print!

The FMSSB is a fine document, indeed. But may it be worth moving this thread over to the SFB sub-board?
(Although, as you say, there is a degree of relevance to other games also, such as FC.) _________________ FC Omega Discussion (v3)

Eh, he is pointing out how the book is useful outside SFB, so it is on-topic here. _________________

So, I have been reading through this book, and I have a question. What was the difference between the partial aegis of the escorts and the full aegis of the aegis ships? Also, what is different about the Romulan Border specific escorts? |

Full aegis allows four firing opportunities on seeking weapons or shuttles/fighters (essentially allowing you to not fire some weapons if the target is destroyed), and has a method (separate from labs) to identify the type of seeking weapon you are facing. Partial aegis limits the firing opportunities to two and does not have the identifying feature.
Romulan border escorts get more phasers for use against plasma. I think by installing them where drone racks on the base escort are. _________________ --

Answering with a different perspective: In Federation Commander "aegis" was abstracted greatly. So, in FC, there is now "limited" or "full" aegis, there is just aegis. Jack's answer is the technical SFB answer.
As Jack points out, the Romulan border escorts replaced some drones with phasers. So, for example, the Federation NEC would have four forward FH phasers and only two forward drone racks, instead of the normal two forward FH phasers and four forward drone racks. _________________
