Is friendly fire legal in Starfleet Armada? I know that the vast majority of the time, there is no benefit from this aside from the delicious look on your opponent's face when they realize they're sitting across the table from a madman, but tractor beams do provide an interesting exception, allowing a vessel with badly damaged engines to lock on to a buddy(or be locked on), and get dragged along, allowing it to stay in the fight instead of careening out of control.
Similarly, what happens to a ship's speed when it is tractored? Let's say ship X is zipping around at speed 8, when suddenly ship Y(who is moving at a much more sedate speed 4) grabs it with a tractor beam. Obviously ship X moves along with ship Y as long as the beam is locked on, but once it is released, does it immediately return to speed 8?
Lastly, what position does a tractored ship maintain with its captor? Let's say that in the above example, ship X was in ship Y's forward port, or just off Shield 6 in FC-ese. In addition, the two ships are lined up so that relative to ship Y, ship X is in direction A. As ship Y moves and turns, does ship X stay on Y's #6 shield facing, or does it rotate around ship Y to stay in direction A? _________________ Orbital Bombardment is too a natural weather phenomenon! |
