Just curious, got the federation commander reference rulebook recently. Do battleships have the same energy cost per base speed as dreadnoughts? Do corvettes have the same energy cost per base speed as frigates? I don't see them on the table in 2B1b. |

Heavy Cruisers are typically move-cost 1.0
Dreadnoughts are typically move-cost 1.5
Battleships are typically move-cost 2.0 _________________ Garth L. Getgen

What do you mean by "corvette"?
The small military ships have a movement cost of 0.25 (e.g. frigates and smaller). However, there is at least one civilian craft that has a movement cost of 0.125 and the gunboat movement cost (a class of ship not yet in the game) still has an undefined movement cost (though last thoughts indicated it would also be 0.125). _________________

Things generally "smaller" than frigates I suppose. Police Cutter (POL), Patrol Corvette (PC), etc. |

The Federation VT corvette was introduced via Communique, some months back. Smaller than a frigate, but movement cost is still 1/4 point. _________________

Yes, they all share the frigate's 1/4 (0.25) movement rate. _________________

Remember that FedCom cannot comprehend odd numbered divisions. The Fed VT is 1/4 and the Fed FF is 1/3 in SFB. In FC they are both 1/4 because there is no way to divide 1/3 across eight impulses. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

We use 3/8 for FLEET ships that are 3/4 in SQUADRON.
Ships small enough to need 3/8 for squadron would be too small in fleet. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

If suggested way back in the beginning of Federation Commander, I suppose 3/8 could have been a reasonable choice for the movement rate for the frigate. However, that would have produced a 3/16 movement rate for the fleet scale ships, and we have worked hard to not use any x/16 movement rates whenever possible. (There is one exception thus far, I believe.)
But, that's all water under the bridge, and it's too late to change the movement rate of frigates to 3/8.
Now, if you were talking about the VT (corvette), why would you want to give it a higher movement rate than the noticeably larger frigate? Given that the movement rate of the frigate is 1/4, there is no way to give the VT a movement rate of 3/8. So ... the VT is 1/4 just like the frigate. _________________
