The Orion ships ability to double their engine output makes them a definite threat in any duel. However, this can also be a curse as the mandatory engine damage from doubling quickly reduces the available power. The question, then, is when to start engine doubling. The longer that it can be delayed, the longer until the power curve becomes a problem.
In a duel or a scenario with a floating or location map, you can use starting distance to determine when to begin doubling. If you start a scenario at a range that won't allow your opponent to bring you into overload range by his maneuver only, then you can avoid engine doubling on the first turn.
You will definitely want to begin engine doubling on the second turn for shield reinforcement and maneuver. _________________ jmt
