I've never played gurps, do I need some sort of core book with Prime Directive? |

No.
The GURPS Prime Directive book contains enough information to run GPD with no other GURPS books.
Now, you may want to use the other books, but there is no need. |

Ive been reading the book myself. It seems like GURPS Lite's rules with all the extra bits one would need to play in the SF Universe. Which is good because waaay back in the day original 3rd ed GURPS had so much stuff in it I just gave up trying to read it. PD did the nice way of easing us into GURPS instead of SJG's 2 volume 600 page total behemoth.
If I enjoy Prime Directive I can buy more stuff for it. ADB and SJG come out winners. The only loser is my wallet! _________________ Play Fed Commander or other hobby games in or near Southeastern Connecticut? Join us! http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/SECTRPG/ |

The bulk of the main books is all the advantages, disadvantages and skills. Read the main character creation chapter, the intro sections of the three I mentioned, and basic combat (at least, if you think your character could get into a fight). Once you're through that, you're generally ready to go. As such it never gave me any problems.
Of course, that's almost exactly what GURPS Lite boils things down to. At any rate, the concept of putting the main rules in with good setting books is a real winner. Glad you're enjoying yourself!
Sinister, what systems do you currently play? |

I run: Deadlands, In Nomine, Pendragon, 7th Sea, L5R, D&D birthright and ravenloft and Marvel Superheroes.
I'm really wanting to do some sci fi stuff. _________________ Current Games Being Played
