Starship control panels

In the old FASA game, the starship combat game had "control panels" that the PCs would use to fly their starship. Each bridge position had a seperate page of charts that they would use. For example, the Engineer would get the power from the engines and allocate them to movement, weapons, shields ...

I think some movement cards comes with Module A+. There are seperate cards for right and left which cuts the number of cards needed in half. You play two cards at a time.

It sounds to me like you'd be better off just using the hex-less miniatures rules and skip the hex map in the first place. Making the turning templates larger would be much easier then trying to printout a gigantic hex sheet.

Somehwat off topic, but I think the reason it's "close and hose" is more for cinematic effect. I mean, it would be hard to film a battle where the ships barely even get close enough to be in decent visual range, and make it edge of your seat action and exciting.
I think the original series had ...

Don't work yourself up over scale. You'll get a headache ... or go mad.
I'm not getting worked up. Actually, I like it better this way. If the F&E map is really 7 or 8 sectors wide you can get rid of the awkward "Octant" term. Plus, you can actually use those sectors to distinguish sections of the ...

Nope. No starter book... I'm not even sure if you could do a starter book...
I've always wondered how F&E does starship combat. I think you could make a small map with a few counters (print your own, of course) to replay a small attack. I've seen this sort of thing before with other wargames. Of ...

Scale, Warp Speed and Charts

I was puttering about with the PD warp speed charts trying to reverse engineer the formula to add values for other warp speeds and noticed something.

Our galaxy (the SFU one) is 100,000 light years across. That's about 30,656 parsecs (at 3.262 ly / pc) or about 61 F&E hexes (each 500 pc). That ...

However, due to our license restrictions, we cannot support anything that brings in elements of Paramount's Star Trek, beyond what we have already used. So we don't have Cardassians or Bajorans or the Borg, but we do have Hydrans and Lyrans and Zoolies.
I can understand the Borg or Cardassians ...

The ships published in Y2 were the WVL (light cruiser) and WVF (frigate), both armed with photons and Ph-1s. (The Y and W prefixes are confusing, but all are basically W-era ships.)
Now that you mentioned it, I noticed that all of the national guard ships in Y2 are given the W prefix whereas all ...

I believe those are Fed Frigates. (the NCL was published in 1982, see my previous post)

Back in the 80s, it seemed that SFB followed the developement of Star Trek as much as possible given their license. Another example besides the NCL, was the Feb battlecruiser which had weapon in its neck ...

Wasn't the NCL first published in Expansion #3? If so, that was 1982, the same year as Wrath of Khan. When I bought Expansion #3, I had already seen Khan so, I guess, I just assumed that's what the ship was supposed to be. Back then I don't think they had a picture or mini so there was no way to ...

I really got into SFB in 1986ish. I always thought that the NCL was supposed to be the Reliant. I also thought that X-Ships were supposed to be ships from TNG.
