P.S. The only thing I "didn't" like in SFC1 was the supernova explosions. I always thought that was overkill.

I have to agree, although it was very satisfying to see that beautiful explosion on your screen after you deal the final blow. The real problem was that it was so distracting when when ...

I think that's a great approach to teaching the game. It reminds me of the tutorial missions in the old Starfleet Command computer games.

I agree, this particular game makes more sense on a hex map. I was suggesting the tabletop rules because it provides something comfortable and familiar when introducing FC to miniatures gamers instead of cold, rigid, and unforgiving hexes (at least that's how I think they might perceive it).

I like ...

I used to love playing the sublight game (First Romulan War) that was in my dad's old copy of SFB Designer's Edition when I was in my early teens. The whole concept of that war simply fascinated me. It's a shame that conflict hasn't ever been significantly fleshed-out (either in Star Trek canon or ...

... I guess I deal with alot of 40k and Warmahordes players not use to the rules layout and the hex maps...
If that's the case, you may want to print out the components for the tabletop "hexless" rules variant and start them out with that. If they're already used to miniatures combat and making ...

Good catch.
But there should not be a link to the downloadable file and ADB's website ? I could not find one in the entry.
There is now. Check the Weblink section near the bottom of the page.

I requested the link to be added as soon as the entry was approved, but it takes a while for the ...

I am going to start demos and an "academy" at my FLGS in a month or so. This is a great idea and want to do the same thing for our gamers. Where did you get the printing done and how much did it all cost?
I did it all myself. Here's what I did for the box and components.

First Missions now up on BGG

I noticed that there wasn't an entry for Federation Commander: First Missions on boardgamegeek.com, so I submitted one yesterday and it just got approved. Anyone who wants to check it out can find it here http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/ ... t-missions

I like that reference card. I think I'll print out a small one to go with my First Missions box. That way I don't have to keep explaining firing arc abbreviations and I don't have to open the rulebook every time someone takes a shot.

How playable is the old TFG version?

Several years ago, I found an old used copy of the 1986 Task Force Games version of Federation & Empire for pretty cheap at a small local game store. I bought it because I was familiar with SFB and my roommate and I played Starfleet Command against each other on our computers fairly often. We never ...

My FC First Missions box art

I've been wanting to give Federation Commander a try for a while, but haven't been able to find anyone who has played it, has the game, or is willing to learn it with me. I've recently been getting into Print & Play games and had found the First Missions files here and thought that I might be able ...
