As someone who's played SFB since Designer's Edition, but hasn't bought any new SFU stuff for at least 10 years, Star Fleet Talon would be an instant purchase for me.

It would let me scratch that SFB fleet engagement itch in 90 minutes.

Thank you. There was me thinking it was an acronym for something like "With Extra Markings".

This might be a dumb question but what does the suffix "WEM" mean on many of the Shapeways miniatures?

Thanks.

Although the initial notice said the ADB Shapeways store would be opening at the end of March, am I correct in saying this hasn't happened yet? I tried looking and I couldn't find it, but I can't rule out I missed it as Shapeways is not the best organised site in the world.

Cheers.

I explained myself poorly. It is like FC boiled down until only the core mechanics are left. I don't think I would say that ACTA and Starmada are mechanically the same as FC (or each other for that matter).

Anyway, if you like FC, you will probably like Talon as a pleasant enough beer 'n' pretzels ...

I haven't play either yet, but don't they already have a SFU game like this with A Call To Arms?

I think there is a difference. The only thing ACTA shares with the SFU is the SFU itself. Mechanistically there is very little overlap. Talon is like FC boiled down until only the core concepts are ...

Talon

Interesting new game from GMT games. It seems to be FC boiled down to its most basic elements. It's all there... impulse based movement, turn modes, pay as you go energy allocation, directional shields. The counters themselves double up as the SSD... they are large (2") laminated counters you mark ...

And it goes without saying that, having eagerly waited five years for this product, I will be all over it as soon as it is released. Very pleased to hear this one is back on the radar again.

It was in the Captain's Log 48 supplement, Steve.

Have they ever published a draft or detailed preview of Federation Admiral? Or are there any popular, published homebrew systems that capture some of that campaign flavor?

Well as Federation Admiral is based on Victory by Any Means, I imagine that the book must be similar to existing VBAM ...

SFB pocket edition is the future. Seriously. My group, who all played avidly in the 90s had pretty much given up on SFB as too cumbersome. A couple of years agowhen the pocket edition was released in PDF we dug it out at a con and had a blast. We are old school so we didn't care it's not balanced ...

We made our own rules with random encounters and everything as well as magnetic sector maps and the works to hang on the wall.

Our campaign rules ended up being fairly extensive and written out pretty well.

We actually devoted an entire website to them.

Is that website still around, Hudson? I ...
