Tabletop Bases
Hi there; I guess this would be a good place for a first post.
I recently came back into SFU gaming via Federation Commander, mostly because it looked like a good rule set for hex less tabletop play. I pulled out my ancient (circa 1983) minis to give it a go; I still had a few of the base overlays that showed the firing arcs and shield facing:
Gorn
Hydran

I really liked how it played, and decided to start building minis again, but I noticed the firing arc overlays were no longer available.
Since they were about the same size, I grabbed some bases from this small game company in the U.K., and I reproduced the design of the old template. I printed them out on glossy paper, and super glued them to the underside of the bases:
New Base
New Bases 2
They work really well, and kept that "old school" look.

I wouldn't mind a dozen or so of them; my buddies all use the older bases, and that would let me get more of them involved.Scoutdad wrote:I've probably got 200+ of those old school base overlays in the bits box. Our group never used them so they just got filed away.
If anyone wants them, speak up and they'll go in an envelope this evening.

I did something similar for my B5 ACTA and Starmada flight stands. I've got some in the works for FC too.
Basically I used GW round flight stands. Made a template using CorelDraw with a Hex drawn into a circle the size of the flight stand. I'd then put in the shield numbers and fire arcs, ship class or type and a number. Top it off with a faction logo.
Afterwards I'd cut out the circles, spray the printed side with clear adhesive spray or use a good clear stick glue like 3M and glue them to the bottoms of the flight stands. The glue would dry clear revealing a nicely detailed flight stand.

Here's some examples of the ones I made for my Babylon 5 ACTA models. I made them dual purpose so they can be used for ACTA, B5Wars and Starmada. The 90 degree arcs are for ACTA and Full Thrust, and the hex is for B5Wars and Starmada. Also helpful is the boresight line. I used a similar template for FC models, which are still in the works.
Brakiri Syndricacy Fleet
Drazi Freehold Fleet
Vree Conglomerate Fleet
I also made flight stands for the large scale fighters (the old AoG B5Wars vintage) to represent fighter flights, as opposed to the small scale fighters on the hex bases (which were AoG Fleet Action and Mongoose ACTA). I used Heroclix bases for the flight stand. I disassembled the base, then added a template that I made that would show numbers from 1-12. This way I can use it to denote the Crew Quality rating for ACTA (which got dropped in 2nd Edition) and number of fighters in a flight for Starmada. It also works well to identify individual flights as well.
More pics on my B5 ACTA Gallery.
I'll have to dig up some pics of the bases by themselves. Also I think I've got some for SFB/FC available on my HD.
