Question on the original SFB set

Post by Kang »

I joined the SFB universe at the time of the Designer's Edition. I appreciate that the original game of SFB was a ziploc bag with seven ships.

My question is, what were those original seven ships? I'd hazard Fed CA, Fed DD, Fed Tug, D7/6 combination card, Rom WB, Orion CR, Thol PC. Or possibly replace the PC with the Fed DN.

Can someone tell me the correct answer, please? :)

Too long ago to remember clearly now!

But boardgamegeek says there were eight SSDs in the zip bag. And another entry lists the counter mix as:

Federation (Black on Blue):
CA1, CA2, CA3, CC4, CC5, CC6, CL7, CL8, CL9, DN10, DN11, DN12, S1, S2, S3, S4, S6, S6 (18)
Klingon (White on Black):
D6 1, D6 2, D6 3, D7 1, D7 2, D7 3, S1, S2, S3, Drone 1-9 (18)
Gorn (Red on White):
CA1, CA2, CA3, CL4, CL5, CL6, S1, S2, S3, Plasma Torpedo 1-9 (18)
Romulan (Black on Red):
WB1, WB2, WB3, WE4, WE5, WE6, KR7, KR8, KR9, S1, S2, S3,
Plasma Torpedo 1-9 (21)
Kzinti (Black on White):
CS1, CS2, CS3, CL4, CL5, CL6, S1, S2, S3, Drone 1-18 (27)
General (on Black):
Mine 1, Mine 2, Planet (Earth Looking) (3)
General (on White):
Monster 1, Monster 2, BS (3)

My best guess is therefore:
Fed CA/CC
Fed DN
Fed CL
Klingon D7/D6
Romulan KR
Romulan War Bird/War Eagle
Gorn CA/CL
Kzinti Strike Cruiser

Alternatively, the KR could have been on the D7/D6 sheet, and the last SSD would have been a base station.

Fed CA/CC
Fed DN
Fed CL
Fed DD/SC
Klingon D7/D6/Rom KR
Romulan War Bird/War Eagle
Gorn CA/CL
Kzinti Strike Cruiser

To the best of my memory.

I think I remember that the Kzinti CS came with shaded boxes to make it a CL. but it has been a long long time.

Yes it did. Those who said you memory was shot were wrong! :D

I may still have some of those in stowage. Must look.

I think my article is the one quoted from BGG above, and here is the part about the SSD's in the pocket version:

6) Eight Ship Systems Displays (SSD’s).

The eight SSD’s come divided in two different sheets with four per sheet.

The eight SSD’s are:

a) Federation Command Cruiser/Federation Heavy Cruiser
b) Gorn Heavy Cruiser/Gorn Light Cruiser
c) Romulan War Eagle/Romulan Warbird
d) Base Station
e) Klingon Battlecruiser D7 or D6 Class/Romulan KR Class
f) Federation Dreadnought
g) Kzinti Strike Cruiser/Kzinti Light Cruiser
h) Federation Light Cruiser
