Is the classic Federation DD going to be cast in pewter?
The old plastic DD for sale makes me uneasy since all my other ships are pewter from the starline 2400 range. I remember reading somewhere this ship was being planned to be cast for 2400.
Is this still coming out or will I have to resort to the plastic ones. This possibly the backbone of the Federation fleet.
(Is the texture and handing different? Anyone have a problem with the plastic mins compared to the pewter ones?)

Dorian, to answer your questions, in oirder:

They are, from left to right: DD, DDF, SC, and DDG
Yes. I completed the master for the new DD engine and sent it to SVC for production.DorianGray wrote:The old plastic DD for sale makes me uneasy since all my other ships are pewter from the starline 2400 range. I remember reading somewhere this ship was being planned to be cast for 2400.
Accordig to ADB, they are scheduled to ship in February 2010. Here is the photo from the BBS:Is this still coming out or will I have to resort to the plastic ones. This possibly the backbone of the Federation fleet.

I have over 100 Federation miniatures that we regularly use for gaming. 15 of them are the plastic, Zocchi destoryers (or kitbashed varants thereof) and several of them are plastic tugs, CA's DN's. We have not had any problems intermixing the plastic ones with the pewter ones. The scale is the same... they paint the same... they look the same on the table.(Is the texture and handing different? The only functional difference I've found with the plastic Zochii ships is the need to weight the base a bit. They weigh next to nothing and tend to tip over if not one a base with some heft to it. A fender washer or two takes care of it just fine.
The biggest upside to the plastic ships is due to their being injection-molded. They are pretty much always perfect (no miss-shapes, next to no flash) and have very fine details that would be almost impossible to do in pewter (lead could come close, but not quite).

Read four posts up...
But then again, why would you want just one? I'm tryingto figure out how many packs I have to order to get a bulk discount!
Based on this, I'd say that, no - single ships packs will not be available.SVC wrote: We plan to release two packs in Feb

Personally, were I the kind to get into more flat-top Fed ships, I'd probably sooner want more of the DDG (with that newer CC saucer) than a mix of it with other types.
That new saucer is just great.
(A shame I can't figure out where the CS I got it with currently is, or the NCF I got around the same time either for that matter... sigh.)

I don't know any official word on release dates, but:
According to USPS tracking, the box with the seven reworked masters was delivered to Bruce Graw at a little after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 12/01.
If these reworks are sucessful, then SVC wants a limited number available for X-mas and the actual production run scheduled for a Feb '10 release date.
Of course, Steve can (and will, when he signs on) provide more accurate information.

I have already issued orders to Bruce to get a production mold made for Juggy. This will take from 4-10 days, depending on many factors. He will then produce 24 ships for limited christmas sales. That will take 1 day. He will then ship them to us, which will take 4 or 5 days. So, somewhere between 9 and 16 days.
