Prime Directive Hydrans

Post by Jean »

SVC has been super busy working to make us color play aids. This time he has tackled the Hydrans with their three-tentacled selves. Whether you are playing a Hydran and want to know what your insignia looks like or a GM who wants folks to run into a Hydran and be able to say "You just ran into a Hydran in an enviro suit; he has this for his insignia", I think you will like it. (Ohhhhhhhh NOOOOOOO, we just knocked down a captain! RUNNNNNNNN!)

Perhaps it's just a naturally occurring bias, but when I first read this, I read; "You just ran over a Hydran in an enviro suit..." :D
I was estatic... then I re-read it and discovered that I had misread it the first time through...
Then I thought, "What if my Klingon Marine ran into the Hydran while driving a Heavy Assualt Tank! Then I was happy again.

Really officer, I thought it was a trash can. You know, one of those decorated ones -- maybe like those horses and cows and things that cities do that get all gussied up.

Let's see if you make your fast talk/diplomacy roll ...

I wonder if an excited Hydran looks like those flappy-arm inflatable thingees that car-dealerships use to catch the eye of folks.

In case anyone missed it before, it's worth noting that the e23 download for Module Prime Alpha comes with a species profile for the Hydrans, too...

Also, I'm imaging His Hydran Majesty wearing a crown shaped like that kingly insignia shown in the file above.

Will, no they don't. Those things the car dealerships use are much too tall.

But I bet if they were shorter and had three tentacles, they would, sort of.

Gary, you are very right about that Module. SVC's play aid above does expand on the ranks listed in that module. Still, I think that the starting core of PD: Hydrans (or wherever the Hydrans end up) is there. It is a very data-rich module.

I would offer to write PD: Low-down, Dirty-Rot... ummm, I mean PD: Hydrans; but somehow - I don't think the idea would be well received.

Well, when it comes time and if a Hydran Triad hasn't gotten you, we'll have to see!

I think the Hydran Triad is planning to take Tony out by disguising a fire hydrant as a Hydran. When he rams it with his car... smash! "Honestly, officer, I thought it was a low-down, dirty, rotten, trashcan-looking, methane-breathing Hydran!"

You know, I think it would be hysterical if Hydran marine combat armor just happened to bear more than a passing resemblance to a human 20th century fire hydrant.

Seriously. That would be a hoot.

Let's not do anything that encourages one of Tony's cars to misbehave!

Well, I was driving down the road, minding my own business when I saw a Gorn with a tail doing a soft-shoe routine. He was carrying a cane and hat as props. Now naturally, this caught my eye as everyone knows that Gorns don't have tails and they rarely do soft-shoe routines. I quickly realized that this was really Two-Tent Hydraxomas, the skilled Hydran assassin who lost a tentacle when he tried to save an innocent Matriarchal from a disruptor blast, and that the cane was really an energy weapon! I ducked out of the line of fire.

Unfortunately, the car didn't and I couldn't see to drive (being that I had ducked, you know) and well, the car had this accident. But I am alive and well and that is all that matters!

:D

You could try that!

I'll keep that one in reserve, Jean. Fortunately, I still have one daughter who just got her permit - so for the next year or so, I can blame vehicular mishaps on her.

After that, I may consider the disguised Hydran assassin bit.
