Plasma bolts in FC vs SFB
This is just a matter of curiosity. Why doesn't the SFB plasma bolt table have damage values like the FC table? Do bolts do some standard value of damage in SFB? (I used to play SFB in Commander's Ed days, but I don't recall ever using bolts.)
The difference is because of how plasma moves differently in the two game systems.
In SFB, a plasma basically has a point value every single hex (which matches hexes). So, for a bolt, you just determine the range, find the damage for that number of hexes, the cut it in half.
In FC, a plasma does a point value of damage for every four hexes (which matches a single FC impulse). But, plasma bolts use range increments of five hexes. So, the four hexes for damage and the five hexes of range don't match up. As a result, the damage potential for plasma bolts has to be explicitly listed out (as it is).
It was just one of those things that didn't line up perfectly, so had to be approached a little differently.
