Fed fast cruisers can effectively phaser dance at range 8,with a likelyhood of doing more damage to the Klingon than they'll take,and with the extra power,are easily capable of throwing in a few extra hexes of movement to close in even closer if necessary.Then on the turns with the photons...well.
