On the older Klingon ships, you'll notice that almost all of the phasers can fire to the rear of the ship. This was originally to deal with Kzinti drones. The phaser-2s are intended to do double duty, defensively as drone defense and offensively up close. Not much use in the sabre dance, but in SFB Klingons have DERFACS [Disruptor Extended Range Fire Something Something System] which makes their disruptors more accurate at long range. That makes up for the relative weakness of the phasers.

The Klingon D5 was a radical design, it used fewer but better phasers and used a special fire control system called "aegis" to improve its drone defenses. (In FC, the seeking weapon impact system works kind of like aegis works in SFB.)

Yes you're right about the disruptor fire control systems. I'm quite glad these are standardised in FC, it does make things simpler although admittedly you do lose a bit of detail and individuality because of it. The Klingon wing phasers were also installed in the palces they were to provide all-round drone defence when fighting the Kzintis, weren't they?
