I got some new Tamiya paints recently, for use with some gunpla work (as opposed to the Citadel paints I relied on back in Ireland) - and this is a WIP of the first Starline mini I'm working on with the new set:

Anyone recognise the livery?

Can't say I recognize the markings, but it's a nice paint job.

Will,

It's a fire squadron color scheme, as seen on the CA of cover of the Lyran Fleet box. The roundrel was in one of the CapLogs a while back with a few other non-county markings

Ah.
Well, ya see I'm not really a Lyran guy. I think I own maybe 5 Lyran minis (three of which were traded to me by scoutdad).

I like my cats red and chucking drones.

Nice job.

Good to see more of the ADB races get some mini love (mine are in the works).

Hey.. I resent that. I've got plenty of Lyrans...

It's the other Kitties that I don't have many of.

*ding ding ding* We have a winner!

The ship is, indeed, supposed to represent the Fire Squadron, as described in CL25 - bringing the finest in Lyran technology to a Federation colony near you!

(And to the Marquis area on a limited-time offer, to boot.)

EDIT:

Just to clarify, are the colour bars (Fire Squadron's are black) only meant to go on the struts holding the outer nacelles, or do they get painted onto the main hull also?

That's a great looking mini!

Some of the old TFG painting guides show a small black bar across the bows with what I believe is the ship's name. I've seen some Lyran paint jobs where this is a stripe of "clan color".

Image
I've done that on some of my minis, like this one...

Image

But I didn't on my Fire Squadron minis, like this DN...

That's one of the things I love about Lyans...I don't think there is really a "wrong" way to paint one.

I'm looking forward to painting my Orions for the same reason. Anything goes, and the weirder/scarier/pirate-ier, the better.

Actually, it's kind of ironic that you say this - since the first thing I noticed in your pic is that your ship has Higgen Dagger county symbols, instead of the non-county-specific Fire Squadron logo that such ships are supposed to have (to indicate their lack of loyalty to any specific county or duchy, but rather to the King-Emperor directly as part of the Squadron)...

...sorry! I can be annoying like that, and it's not like I stuck with the rulebook for the rest of the colours on my own ship.

(In my case, I tried to replicate the logo from CL25, but there was only so close I could get it to be with the tools then at hand. I might try again though, now that I have a fresh set of thinner brushes. Or I could just wait and see if any FS transfers ever get made for me to use instead. Or something.)

I am glad you like my pics, though!

(The Lyran pseudo-script looks vaguely like katakana, but methinks the size involved might be too small to try and duplicate with a brush.)

excellent work..

I love your Andro and the Klingons colors.. very menacing.

I will be working on my Federation Enterprise ship on Monday, so that will be fun..

I spent the last couple of days sculpting off excess pewter, using as much sand paper I can to sand off the putty I put in spots to smooth out the detailing..

then once all that was completed.. I lightly sprayed on some primer and got both sides of the mini..

so on Monday, I will be painting the entire ship, and then I will be appying the decals..so hopefully by wed I can upload some nice digital shots of the finished work..

each miniature takes me about 3 weeks..

1 week of sculpting out or fixing mold imperfections.. putty work, and sanding..

then on to the primer,

Miniature assembly and base attaching..

and then a slow painting process.. tackling each piece one by one..

after that I apply the decals.. and then let dry for a day..

then I use a spray clear coat to seal them on..

then the last step is to assemble the mini on the stand..and fill in any minor detailing, Gundam markers work great.. but you can also find some .5 sharpies that will do the trick too..

Yeah, I went with Hidden Dagger decals because I didn't have anything for the Fire Squadron and they were the closest match I had for the color scheme.

If Bob or someone else ever produces Fire Squadron decals, I'll probably replace these, but for now they are "good enough".

I've slowly made a start at a couple of new arrivals, and a few ones which had been sitting around in storage for a bit too long.

In case you're wondering, the saucer of the CS might be evidence that Gundam Markers aren't quite so useful for doing those Fed panel lines.

Now I need to get these ones a bit further along.

And to figure out where exactly my other minis, not least my Juggernaut and ISC BB, are currently off to.

And which storage box has my glue and pliers in.

Ahem.

Jean posted another pic of my Cave Lion! (I wasn't expecting that pic to be used... in fact, I had forgotten it was still on file.)
