With out knowing the mass of def sats and bases how can it be said that a base could not hold a DS in orbit I presume a base would be in the range of at lest several thousands of tonnes and the DS at most a few hundred Kg. If some one can gives me the numbers I’ll happily work it out. I think most of us agree that we don’t want to see mines in FC but the lack of them dose weaken a bases comparable (with SFB) strength. It seem like an easy fix for this problem (famous last words  ), also as I said in my original post I was looking at the idea from a campaign angle. I used the mine analogy loosely. I don’t see, if a case warrants it, why on these smaller points the SFB rules have to be slavishly followed; it’s a different system with different demands.

This, or something similar, I would agree with particularly in the campaign arena, to stop abuse. How it is justified is an other matter.

Petrick has ruled: Defsats must orbit a planet or moon and cannot be added to a base. This is an SFB rule which applies to FC.

Nothing here that prevents you starbase from orbiting the same moon as the defsats.

That's true but the planet will block arcs of fire. In the case of a base orbiting a planet, defsats will help cover the base's "blind spot" so that attacking ships can't hide in it as easily. At least until the defsats are dead.
