There could be a couple of fun scenarios in there where Hydrans send off a deep strike Stinger raid against Klingon Mining colonies, some convoys, maybe a mobile base or a Base station, etc
I don't see lone Stingers as a 'tactic' though, because as stated, being limited to speed 16, and typically facing Klingons, Stingers will never be able to close the range and will be eaten alive by long range fire.

Fire that would otherwise go where?
The entire point of this is a scenario in which the Hydran side is composed of nothing but Stingers. What else is the capitol ship going to shoot at?

I was stating that the stingers could just be used as dummies, in fleet action.

Todd is correct. If you bought a fleet of Stingers in lieu of capital ships, they would be the fleet and would be the only thing the base could fire it's phaser-4's at.
Boy, can you imagine how frustrating it would be to have to fire a range 12 phaser-4 at a single Stinger!

Which is why you'd have to send them against a fixed or slow moving target, like a Base Station or a supply convoy.

i wouldn't use them against a base station, but a supply convoy might work.

The only scenario I could see as an honest "Stinger only" fleet action would be planetary defense --
As stated, with a speed of 16, can't see them being very effective even in that instance --

Are you kidding me? I'd go on EM, and close to point blank range, come off of EM and vaporize the Star Base.
At Fleet Scale, you are talking what 35 Stingers at Fleet Scale.(don't have the SB card Handy)
so the base Kills 10-12 ..I will still have about 25 Stingers..so 100 P-3's and 25 Fusion Beams..that's what..400-450 points of damage..Dead base..even half that number of stingers..still a dead base.

that or a minig colony raid, or a fleet supply train interdiction..but very limited uses.
I could also see a scenario where a patrol comes across the carrier fleet while the Stingers are off on their mission..could be a cool scenario too. Also an Excuse to get teh Uhlan or Cavalier carriers into the game

I didn't know that stingers Could EM.
