I'd seen elsewhere that some plasma ship users may prefer to run their ships as (mostly) phaser ships, keeping the plasma tubes either armed and held, or not powered until needed later.
I wonder if the Gorns have something of an edge in trying to do this in the Middle Years? They have good phaser coverage, a fair bit of power, plenty of shuttles to load up, and less seeking weapon clutter to deal with themselves.

Well, Kzinti ships have 50% of the disruptors of their modern hulls. This means that there is even LESS reason to get in close.
Kzinti tactic? Break into two groups and launch drones on a target between the two? If he turns and attacks one group, then... one group (tries to) pin the other.
I DO like the Feds Ph-1s, but a lack of Ph-3s to the rear (and no RA Ph-1, except the RS/LSs on the DD)... the Kzinti are probably the ones to thank for rear Ph-3s on Fed ships.

Well, note that the Fed OCA has LS/RS arcs for its 4 side Ph-1s, and the CAR (to come in
Booster 91) will have rear-firing phasers fitted to it.
Also, the GSC has those 4 360-degree Ph-3s.
