NCC 1714 Hornet is looking like a good decal set to get :)

I just noticed Citadel redid their whole paint line since I used them last... my plan for the nacelle tips isn't even possible anymore (well, it may be if I figure out the new nomenclature and equivalents for their products). I've seen that some people paint the tips of the nacelles red like in TNG, some paint them a sort of rusty orange... how do you actually define the strange effect they had for them in TOS? Is remotely near to one color? I'm actually partially color blind in reds (and a few other shades) so this is a particularly cerebral exercise for me as it will likely look like a mess to me no matter what I do with it. I'd welcome any and all techniques/tips for that particular part of the ship :)

Thanks!

Also, thank you for all the great tips so far!

Mine have the nacelle tips painted metallic silver over a black base.
I then paint them with transparent red... started at the edges and working inwards so as to give them a deeper red around the edges and a light red near the middle.

Mine are very simple. Tamiya acrylics: X-6 Orange, with X-8 Lemon Yellow dry brushed onto the front.

Right on. Thanks for the tips!

Scoutdad - it sounds like we are going for pretty much the same approach, that gives me hope at least that it will work, lol.

I sometimes wish that instead of fancy names, paints would just include a hex code for the actual shade of color they are. It'd make things SO much easier :)

I just wish the manufacturers would stop revamping the line every three or four years and discontinuing the colors my entire army / fleet / terrain is painted in.

I whole-heartedly agree. It's so damned annoying.
