It would be cool if there was a hexagon shaped tab under the Turret and a hexagon shaped slot in the hull so you could change facings.

I actually modelled that one first, but that was before I made all the recent changes. So I'll have to go back and redo the hex post.

I like where the Qari are going. I can't say I think they'd sell very well, but I wouldn't mind putting a minimal empire set (CA, DW, DD, FF) on Shapeways.

If you put the Qari in Shapeways, would you put them in a CL for FC?

I've got the CA/CC and CW close to ready, just need to resolve a few issues and maybe rework the nose a bit.
Can start on the DD and FF next as soon as the Ocelot is done.

We really need a separate topic for QARI if you want me to answer those questions.

Let's try this again. Images on the last post were not quality.
Done this rev:
1) Aligned phasers on the aft quarter
2) Tweaked aztecing
3) FINALLY corrected a nagging geometry issue with the nacelle/pylon connection that apparently doesn't bug Shapeways -now-, but you never know what might happen later. Mesh should now be properly watertight (it was off by, like, picometers, before...)

Side-question: Is imgur working out for your picture-hosting?
I have totally had it with all the slow-downs, nasty ads, and crashes on photobucket.

I have precisely zero complaints about Imgur. It gets its revenue from ad hits on the front page and gallery views, rather than kvetching about your images and forcing you to view ads just to get a single picture. No intrusive script, no "you're using an ad-blocker so you can't see this page", no problems at all.

Chris (ecs05norway) has joined the Shapeways team and his Lyrans will be in the store no later than 1 August and very possibly on 11 July.

OK...
I've perused this topic with interest, but haven't contributed much as I've been working on ACTASF and this (at first) seemed to be a fan-based vision.
Now however; it appears that Chris has been selected as the primary modeler of Lyran ships for Shapeways.
This brings with it a whole new level of interest on my part.
The Lyrans are my empire of preference... and their ships are the ones I most enjoy painting.
I will therefore be posting here often... hoping to see my cats done the justice they deserve...
And since work on Book 3 (and the Lyrans) is imminent - the 3125 versions will be coming to the forefront or our attention.
That being said, my comments so far:
I absolutely detested the excessive aztecing on the original lay-out and am glad it was reduced.
I enjoy painting the cat-camo schemes and all of the panels would make for extremely difficult painting of those, and would produce distracting shadows under most lighting conditions.
As for the current, reduced intensity pattern - I'm torn. I love the large large panels the original 2400s provided. I used them as a blank canvas for a multitude of patterning. I understand that many people do like to see the large panels broken up - if only to provide a sharp edge to highlight and wash. I was of the same opinion with regards to the panels on the 2500 series Orions. But once I ha them on the work bench, they turned out nicely.
If the panels remain, I do hope they are kept to a minimal thickness so as not to overwhelm the rest of the details.

No decision has been made on Aztek-Zero, Aztek-50, or Aztek-100.
I know what I want, but I'm not the target customer. Customers tell us what you want. I'd rather not do two versions.
