Instead of trying to play gotcha, if you wanted an actual tactical response to how a relatively evenly pointed Hydran Fusion Ship/Stinger group would deal with uncloaking Roms at short range, then you would've accepted post 8 of page 6. A relatively evenly pointed Hydran/Rom matchup is far more likely to come up in actual play than the 430 to 180 pt situation that you were trying to push.storeylf wrote:Its a tactics thread, rather have someone who wasn't present simply harp on in the most useless general terms about how someone can't win a battle that they actually did win, I was trying to step back and look at the sort of tactics that crop up in a rom/hydran fight starting from scratch, because, well it might be useful for people reading a tactics thread.
In the 430 vs 180 pt situation you setup, there are no interesting tactics. The Roms kill 12 stingers with plasma, the remaining 6 either kill SNs or heavily damage KEs, and then they die from Rom phasers and tractors.
The way you described the situation, uncloaking single ships to kill 3 stingers at a time while in the midst of lots of stingers and fusion ships, could only succeed if the opponent fired during the fade in period.storeylf wrote: OK it was a doomed attempt, ultimately your 100% hindsight and perfect play will always point out how no one could lose to such tactics. Plus of course our idea of balance is different, so any discussion on balance is pointless.
