I am not sure where I saw this on the Starfleet Games website but it was a mention of a possible future product of all of the fan fiction from the all of the Captain's logs and some new stories.

I would love to see a book like that.

Was there any fan fiction in the Nexus mags?

You might be thinking of For the Glory of the Empire: Starfleet Journal #1, which is a compilation of SFU Klingon fiction stories.

I think there were a few fiction pieces in Nexus (I'd have to look and I'm at work). Probably not much, and short if they were there at all, since Nexus was a "house organ" for Task Force Games and they had other games to promote besides SFB. Fiction for SFB (and later the SFU at-large) didn't really take off until the start of the Captains Log magazine devoted to the SFU (which had more space to spare on things not directly tied to the game-table).

I wouldn't class the SFU fiction as "fan fiction" because it is all professionally edited and reviewed by ADB before publication and must conform to what SVC wants the SFU to be.

Usually, fan-fiction is more loosey-goosey and anything-goes (since the person is free to write and post whatever they want). Often fan-fiction heads into "slash" styles (Google it if you dare; there's 30 years of Kirk+Spock stuff out there).

There are a very few SFU-oriented pieces of fan-fiction out there. "Timelines" is the best I've read.

I don't think it's going to be one giant tome, but yes, it will be consolidations.

In fact, the first of these books, For the Glory of the Empire, is available on the shopping cart.

CL13 has the "Best of Nexus" so I'd check there to see if there was fiction. I don't have my copy handy, but I remember there was some.

EDIT: Cross post with djdood.

I will definitely check out For the Glory of the Empire: Starfleet Journal #1.

I saw this product on ebay. Star Fleet Battles: Stellar Shadow Journal #1

Does anyone have any info on that book?

Note: both Stellar Shadows Journals pre-date Federation Commander by several years and only contain material for Star Fleet Battles and the other game systems (F&E, SFBF, etc.).

It also had the best weapon ever added to Federation and Empire (F&E):
The B-HAG (Black Hole Asteroid Gun!)
The gravitational attraction of a black hole was usedto accelerate an asteroid at the target planet!!!

Think Starship Troopers on steroids!!!

You mean that thing from CL#20 really exists?!?!?!

Though I suppose it was in the scenario too, but .

I had SSJ#1 and suppose it's still around somewhere. The only thing I can really remember about it is that it's got the old two-engined CVA SSD in it, which is why I bought it, since I have that mini.

So, since we are on the subject of SFU fiction, could some of the veterans here (I only discovered the SFU with FC in 2006, so I consider myself a freshman) let us know what would be in their opinion the best fiction stories already published ?

My SFU library is extremely limited (6 issues of CL, 1 issue of Nexus and the " For the Glory of the Empire" compilation) but I will tell you my top 3 favorites so far:

1 - "Duty, Honor, Empire" - CL#35
2 - "Behind the Glory of the Heroes" - Nexus#6
3 - "The Threads of War" - FtGotE Klingon Compilation

I don't claim to be a veteran myself, though I do have all by one issue of CL and many other products.

The stories selected for For the Glory of the Empire are quite good, but I'm more of an "Eastern Front" fan.

CL#5 has some great Fed/Romulan stories that are all tied together about the Day of the Eagle. You can get a high quality black and white copy from ADB.

I think those three are my favorites...
"The Surprise Reversed"
"And To the Republic"
"Encounter at Denebola"
and the tie together story is rather nice as well.

Though "Shield of the Federation" from CL31 is good too.

Day of the Eagle has had several more stories printed, including the ones about Macedonia and (I think) Nimitz.

The Art of Duty about the USS Macedonia is in CL21 and Aces and Eights about the USS Nimitz is also in CL31.

Plus there is The Magnificent Panzers about the USS Rommel and USS Guderian is in CL38.

I've always been partial to John Sickels' work, "The Eye of the Needle" in particular is a favorite. Great characterizations and solid action scenes.
