Single/Squadron Duel: Floating, Fixed, or Location?

It seems that whether a map is Fixed or Floating can have a significant effect on how various ships match up. Those which require some room to "move and jab" such as the Klingons vs Federation or anyone vs plasma are "advantaged" by floating maps but "penalized" by fixed maps.

That being the case (or so I assume...at least to varying degrees) for typical duel-style games, whether one-on-one or squadron-vs-squadron, what do most of you prefer, Fixed or Floating maps? Why?

EDITED/UPDATED: Mike added Location as an option

(Thanks Mike!)

You forgot to list my answer: "Location Map".

I have resolved that I don't ever want to fight on a "floating" map ever again. I want a "location" map, even if it has a radius of 50 hexes.

I agree with Mike. Location map is the way to go... even if it appears to be a floating map - such as a convoy scenario where you must remain within "X" hexes of the convoy you are escorting.

I tried to edit the poll to include a Location option but couldn't.

Mike, as an admin can you add that option? Please feel free to do so if you can.

Thanks!

Tim

A straight floating map is a serious pain in the posterior in most circumstances. Location maps give you an objective, and reflect that most military actions happen because there is something significant in the area worth fighting over.
