I've trolled though the forums and can't find this topic so I'm gonna ask: Can photons target drones?

Yes, and so can disruptors and other heavy weapons.

And, unlike in Star Fleet Battles, there are no 'small target' modifiers, so photons fire normally against drones.

btw. welcome to the forum! :)

Indeed, welcome to the forums szeiser. As Kang said, yes they can. Off the top of my head, I believe all heavy weapons can be used in the fashion. It's usually inefficient, especially for multi-turn arming weapons to be used as such, but sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do.

Thanks guys for the response. I was playing the solo seeking drones scenario and was wondering if i should bother loading the tubes during those turns. Now I probably will.

Also, can you fire them at drones during the defensive fire phase as well?

No, heavy weapons can't fire during the defensive fire phase.

Weapons that can fire in defensive fire are noted in the weapon's own rules.

IIRC, the only weapons that can fire in defensive fire are:

Phasers
ADDs
Tholian snares
Lyran ESGs
Vudar Ion Pulse Generators
ISC rear-firing plasma-F torpedoes

Just to make sure on this one, the ISC rear firing torpedoes cannot fire during the defensive fire phase. They can fire defensively, but NOT during the defensive fire phase.

The ISC rear firing torpedoes CAN be fired in the defensive fire phase.
Plasma-D torpedoes can NOT be fired in the defensive fire phase.

So, Terry's list is correct.
