Evasive maneuvering and asteroids - clarification

I note that Rule (6B2e) say that evading ships take higher asteroid damage.

Could I please suggest that in the next rulebook this point is also placed in the Evasive Maneuvers (2D4) section of the rules as well, under 'limitations', as it is not presently listed there?

Indeed, (2D4c) seems to imply that '...terrain-induced effects are not affected' by evasive maneuvering - which presumably does not include asteroids?

I'll research this (and your other two) questions later today or tomorrow.

At least it will provide three "rulings" for the next Communique ...

Heh. Thanks for the update, Mike.

Praps we will need to start another CRUL.....

Along the same lines...

I recently had to find every rule about landing and taking off for shuttles. This included to/from ships and to/from planets.

If memory serves, I believe it required looking in 3 different sections, but it may have been more. I ended up typing all the pertinent rules to fit on one sheet of paper and printing it for quick reference during a game.

No one wants a rulebook that lists the same rules over and over again, but I'm wondering if there is some other way to do this?

Rather than retype all the rules, I suggest putting references. For example...

XX.X) For effects of Asteriods while using Evasive Manuevers, see rule XX.X.

I suggest putting rules for asteriods and EM into the asteriod rule. My thinking is that, asteriods aren't used as often as EM. Since you'd only need to worry about the rule if asteriods are used, it's sort of an "exception rule" rather than a general rule. That's why I suggest putting them in the asteriod section.

DNordeen's idea makes sense and sounds good.

FWIW, I have tried to make sure references were added in the manner DNordeen suggests. Several were added for the Rev5 Reference Rulebook. But these sections weren't part of those requests because they had not yet been asked about ...

No, absolutely. I know that's what you do and a great job of it you do too. This is why I point these things out; not rules problems as such, like contradictions, clarity etc., but minor tweaks that would make things easier - as I know you appreciate :)

I agree that (2D4) needs a cross-reference to (6B2e).

However, there is no contradiction for (2D4c)! (2D4c) specifically lists the benefits of Evasive Maneuvers. As such, the ship gains no benefits against terrain effects by using Evasive Maneuvers. That it actually has a harmful effect in one case is irrelevant to (2D4c).

Thanks Mike. Don't worry, I wasn't implying a contradiction per se, just that I'd played a couple impulses before I remembered that there was something about evasive maneuvering in an asteroid field....

Was that before or after you hit the asteriod?

Just before...

I can see it now....

Capt: Manuever evasively, we're going to have to outsmart this guy.
Ensign: Aye aye, sir. Manuevering evasively.
XO: Capt, he's closing on us. He'll be in range shortly.
Capt: Damn, head for the asteroid field
Ensign: Aye aye, sir. Entering the asteriods

Capt (thinking) Hmm...there's gotta be a way I can get back the initiaitive. Wait, why does that asteriod seem to be moving randomly all over our course. It's getting closer, too...OH @#@#

Capt: ENSIGN! STOP MANUEVERING EVASIVELY.

[BOOM]

XO: Sir, we've taken damage on the forward shield. Damage Control is surveying the damage.

Only in spirit. I'd never let an ensign drive
