Interest in starting a FCOL Campaign?

I was in the campaign started by Kerry Drake, and I was curious if there was interest in starting it up again with new Empires? I would be happy to run and organize it.

Depending on the level of interest, I am always a fan of having more then one person on each side, due to the effects that real life can have on an online campaign.

So.... anyone interested?

Here is the draft of the rules, although if we are going to start the campaign, I will probably tweek them a bit (and anyone is invited to make suggestions):

One thing that I was considering is changing the current approach, of a free for all, into more of a General War feel with multiple empires, but dividing them into two sides.

I am thinking this might be better simply because three empires usually turn into two against one, and then turn on each other, and even four is usually two separate wars that turn into one big one.

More then four empires allows the free for all to work better in my experience, so if we get that much interest it would work, but otherwise what do folks think of two sides with multiple empires?

I've thought the same way in the past too. My idea would be to: Wait and get at least 5 Empires. Or even better, 7...

So as an update, we currently have the following interested parties:

Admirals:
Dread_Lord
pinecone
Andromedan
Sir_Krotar
Tugger

Captains:
The_Rock

I'll leave things open for a bit longer for more interested parties, and Captains are always welcome. I am going to start looking at updating the rules a bit, so if anyone has some good ideas, let me know so I can include them.

Any rules set works for me, and with five admrials we can really have an interesting diplomatic world (2 on 3, 2 on 2 on 1, 1 on 1 and 2 on 1...). I can't wait! :)

Ok, so I am going to close the entrance for new admirals at the end of the day on Friday (so if anyone is still interested, post now! :) ) I will also have a draft of the rules to update by then so we can start discussing them.

The admirals should start thinking about their bids for races. The way the system works is as such: you get a maximum of 2000 points. You place a bid that looks like this:
Player A
Kzinti 1900
Klingon 1950
Fed 2000
Rom 2000

The list in is order of preference. The person who gives the lowest bid for a race gets that race. If someone else bid below you, then you go to your second choice. If the second choice is low bidded (if that is a word) then you go to your third and so on

So if a second and third bid was
Player B
Kzinti 1890
Fed 1900
Klingon 2000

Player C
Kzinti 1900
Klingon 1960
Fed 2000

Then Player A would Klingon, Player B would get Kzinti, and Player C would get Fed and Player A would have 1950 points for his fleet, B would have 1890, and C would have 2000. Bear in mind that even if all your choices are equal weight, say:

Player D
Kzinti 2000
Klingon 2000
Fed 2000

Still give it to me in order of preference. Ties will be awarded to high roll (the parties should get on FCOL and roll off)

Does that work for everyone? I will send out my bid in a zip file with a password on Friday. I will then send out that password when we close bidding.

Obviously only those races availabe on FCOL are acceptable.

Also, I would advise that everyone try and find some captains to join in the fun. First of all it is good for FC, second it is good for FCOL, and third it is good for the campaign.

Captains Wanted!!!!!!!

Oh, one last thing in this avalanche: since we have 5 admirals I figure we could go for free for all. I'll put together a proposed map for approval. The easiest approach would be a pentagon type shape, and that is probably what I will go with unless I have a creative epifany or hear a good concept for a better map.

What is the deadline for bids?

What races are allowed?

Well, if I close admiral signups on Friday, let's shoot for a week and a half (because I will be at Co5N next week). So let's try to close things off on Oct 14th end of the day?

I don't much mind folks taking any empire, but I haven't been playing Fed Com much sense some of the later empires have come out. Are there any that should be excluded for balance reasons?

Other then that, if someone wants to take an empire not currently in the library, they would be responsible for uploading the ships before they use any of them in battle, although bear in mind the rules for the length of time required between a product coming out and uploading them to the FCOL library. I certainly don't want to be the cause of any conflict due to uploading of disallowed ships.

Oh dear. After posting that I realized that my account time was used up. I'll have to renew later tonight.
