I am having difficulty painting the mobile base. I painted the entire piece one color and now I am trying to paint the middle part of it another color.
Its hard not to get the second paint color on the round tube parts.
Should I paint the middle first and then paint the round tubes second?
All I want is a two color scheme.

Not knowing what your experience or skill level is, I run the risk of stating things you already know, but here goes...
Have you considered masking off the areas you have already painted?
There's lots of special masking strips and tapes available that can be worked around curved shapes and/or trimmed after application.
Another option is liquid masking (which is a thick liquid latex rubber) that you brush on, allow to gel, then trim with an exacto knife on your mask edge. Once you've done your second coat of paint and the paint has cured, you rub the mask off.
I've used both. Different shapes often demand different approaches.

I'd go ahead and paint the entire mini the main (pods) color, paint the joint section your other color, then just go back and touch up any slop on the pods. It's probably the quickest and least frustrating way.

Hey, Wedge...for what race are you painting it?
I actually use DJ's method...have for years. I'll tell you about the awards I won over the years for military modelling next week.
