Dear Friends,

So far, which has proven to be the better selling PD system, D20 or Gurps ? A related question - what appears to be the more popular system, for example in gaming conventions ? Are there other indicators of comparative popularity ?

Thanks !

Gary

The GURPs books sell better than the d20 books, but both sell well enough to continue.

Thanks ! Actually I have been religiously buying ALL post-1st edition PD products to date, both Gurps and D20, with exception of Klingons PD20M.

However, I really wonder about the continuing viability of the D20 / D20M line, as it seems WOTC no longer actively supports the series, it is impossible to find the basic D20 / D20M books in stores, and it's getting harder and harder to find D20 Modern / Future players.

Dear Jean and Friends,

Were you guys able to get any more feedback on the relative popularity of PD Gurps vs PD D20 / D20M at Origins ?

Thanks !

Gary

I was about to post that. Sweet link.

Also check this out, an online d20Modern reference. Free. You can print parts out, very useful. http://www.12tomidnight.com/d20modernsrd/Home.php

Dear Jean and Eric,

Thanks for the info on D20M !

Please share any info you guys may have on PD in Origins, and the overall state of the popularity of PD D20 / D20M.

Eric, are you a PD D20 / D20M enthusiast ?

Thanks !

Gary

We sold a few PD books at Origins, but there was no "this one is more popular than that one" data generated. Too few to be relevant.

Ok thanks SVC ! What were among the PD best sellers at Origins ?

Gary, as SVC pointed out, there were too few PD sales at Origins to be able to determine which is most popular. We absolutely expected that to be true. The booth across from us had RPG materials and trade was fairly slow (I thought) for the crowd.

If you take a Great Dane, an Irish Wolfhound, and a St. Bernard to a cat show, the question isn't which is more popular, but did you sell any at all. I do have to get back to PD Feds now that I have a bit of breathing room, but I have to clear my office area so I can (there's far too much F&E, FC, and SFB works that were "in progress" still lying about). I also need to unpack PD Feds stuff from where I took it to Origins (mistakenly thinking that I might have a few free minutes to work on it). <- Silly Jean!

I am loving the PD, but I am not a fan of level based RPGs outside of fantasy. I prefer the GURPS version. I am running an on again, off again Traveller campaign. Great system for space games, not as complex as GURPS.

However, I have played in a bunch of d20 and d20M games ran by others. Its fun.

I prefer GURPS PD as well, mostly as I'm a big GURPS nut and not big on D20.

@ Jean, thanks for the clarification !

@ Eric and Sweeper, are you guys involved in any ongoing PD Gurps Campaigns ?

@ Eric, am glad you are into Traveller as well. Which version ?

Not as such. Been playing with Savage Worlds and learning F&E lately.

Last time I did run a game, it was the G3e version and it was Federation Marshall campaign.

And no, The Sector Marshall wasn't Tommy Lee Jones, why do you ask? :)
