Tourney Question

According to the tourney rules, "No battleships, or ships only published in Communique, Briefing #1 or #2, or Captain's Log may be included in the force (unless they have been formally published in a product)."
What is the status of Booster #92? Can you use any of these ships (I love the Fed NCD). As for that matter, what about booster #91.

Its a booster which is a product so the ship cards are valid for use.

Well, I assume the "Middle Years" cards from 91 are out. What about ships with Aegis and Special Senors that are in boosters 91-95?

93, 94, and 95 aren't out yet, so arent a consideration.
No special sensors in the tournament. Fly the ship if you want to.
Aegis, I don't actually know. I'll ask Filsinger.

I asked Mike Filsinger, who seemed to think at Aegis was not an problem, but technically the RULES for aegis say "borders of madess only" but the rules for the tournament says "printed laminated cards" so I'm really not sure. I told Mike Filsinger to make a decision and let everybody know.

Can we buy fast (speed 32) drones? Either as much as we want or maybe with some limit on it like in the SFB Captains tournament and the limits on the Hydrans stingers.

There's always one, isn't there?

Why not? It is a "buy a squadron" tournament, and there are some ships that didn't come out until fast drones just started becoming available and i can buy those (some DNH's, Fed BCJ) It
is in the rulebook as an option to buy. If they are considering allowing borders of madness ships and rules in then this should certainly be considered also. Maybe with some limits like the Hydrans stingers or as much as you want to buy.

Aye, I know

It just looked as if you were like a wee boy in a sweetshop - Ooh, can I have one of those? I guess it was your enthusiasm that came across!!
O'course, it's a valid question. I'd like to know the answer myself....

My own feeling on it is "just say no to fast drones".
Firstly, I believe it's been ruled "no" before. Fast drones are the closest thing that FC has to any kind of optional rule. I think they're only available with published scenarios or mutual agreement.
Secondly, while fast drones came out at the same time as some ships (like BCHs) in SFU history, FC is more or less "history-less".
Thirdly, it's a fixed map and I think masses of fast drones would be unbalancing in favour of empires packing lots of drones (Kzinti and WYN, some Klingon, Orion and Federation squadrons).

I'll ask Mike F but you can assume the answer is "no" unless and until you hear otherwise from me or Mike F.

Mm.. so although there's a laminated card with special sensors boxes you can't use the special sensor rules that appeared in a FedCom product, but Aegis which has no actual sytems on the card (hence the card doesn't require any special rules to use) may be fine even though the rules for it are also BoM.
Be constistent. If BoM is NO in one case then it shoud be NO in all cases.

I am not the Mike in question (that would be Filsinger), but I would expect that, at the end of the day, escorts, drone ships, and the scout will not be available for tournament.
Likewise, fast drones are out. The reason is because they may only be used when special scenario rules permit. Since they are not mentioned in the special tournament rules, they are not permitted.

I don't see a problem with the drone cruisers. They are simply ships with drones replacing other weapons, plus more seeking weapon control, and the BPV reflects the changes. It doesn't deal with optional rules.
the problem with allowing Aegis and Special Sensors is that they are not part of the main rules, and potentially players will be encountering these rules for the first time, or at least with only a passing familiarity in an official event.
I believe anyone playing should be responsible to know the rules of the game, but not to know rules that are options.
