being fully cloaked

If I'm reading the reference rulebook correctly, there is a contradiction between an example and a rule.
In the example in 5P3a, it says that in impulse 5 (when the ship is fully cloaked) any phasers would apply the double and add four rule. In 5P3c, it states add 4 and apply half damage. Which is correct?

I believe it's the example that is in error, but I'm sure mjwest will confirm...

(5P3c) is the correct procedure for determining damage from direct fire weapons on a fully cloaked ship.

Since it was the example that was added in the Reference Rulebook, I am going out of a limb to say the example should have been worded differently. As Tony said, the (5P3c) rule is how it is supposed to be. That rule did not change from the Revision 4 rulebook, but the example was added.

I had asked that question right after the 5th edition book came out and it is the example that is wrong. There is no doubling of the range. Here is the link to that forum topic http://www.starfleetgames.com/federatio ... ight=cloak.

Ok, then damage is reduced by half (fractions rounded down).
Consider 4 phasers doing 3, 3, 3, and 2 damage.

Choice A) Each phaser is treated seperately and the "fractions rounded down" refers to the reduction in damage, not the damage itself.
Half of 3 is 1.5. 1.5 rounded down is 1, so the first phaser does 3 - 1 damage. total damage is 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 9

Choice B) Each phaser is treated seperately and the round-down is after the reduction. So the first phaser does 3 - 1.5 = 1.5. 1.5 rounded down is 1. Total damage is 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4

Choice C) All damage is totaled before halved. Fractions rounded down is done to the reduction. Half of 11 is 5.5. 5.5 rounded down is 5. total damage is 11 - 5 = 6.

Choice D) All damage is totaled before halved. Fractions rounded down is done after the the reduction. Half of 11 is 5.5. 5.5 rounded down is 5. total damage done is 5.

Which choice is the correct intrepretation?

This stuff should be added to the CRUL for the Revised Rulebook!

Better yet, these changes and additions should be put in the pertinent pages of the Revised Rulebook and made available either as pdf's or individual sheets.

I've been scanning the pages of the one I bought, putting them into Word document files, making the appropriate changes, and printing replacement pages, but it sure is a hassle without the original pdf files. I know Origins is coming up, but a service like this sure would be nice at some point in the near future.
