Federation Commander

This coming weekend, 2 of us were going to play Showdown at Grimrock (from Klingon Attack) and I had a couple of questions:

1. In Romulan Attack there are alternate forces, Romulan Firehawk, KR K5R, Snipe vs. Gorn BC, CL, DD. It there a typo for the Gorn? Should there be 2 DDs? This would make the point values roughly even. In the original scenario the Klingons and Kzinti had rougly equal point values (414 vs 412).

2. We might try Romulan vs Federation instead of Romulan vs Gorn. The original scenario says fixed map, but since we are using plasmas it seems that we should be using a location map instead because of the plasma rules? i.e. the plasma rules override the Klingon Attack (non-plasma) scenario rules?

3. I assume that the standard plasma loading rules apply (4J2e) where plasmas won't be ready until turn 2 (only one turn arming done pre-game) even though this is an attack on a fixed location? The Fed (me) course will probably burn batteries and have photons loaded on turn #1.

1. In earlier scenarios, some alternative forces were made by creating similar fleets, and ended up being off from each other point-wise. So, yes, adding in a second DD to the Gorn forces is probably a good idea.

2. If that is what it takes to make it work for your situation, then, yes go ahead and switch to a location map. Plasmas are still used on fixed maps, but usually not that often. You are already doing an alternative version; switching between fixed and location maps is perfectly acceptable.

3. Yes, I would expect that standard plasma loading rules will apply.
