Armor Question (Armour Inquiry for UK guys)

If you only have armor, and get hit with say...10 points of damage...you take 9 hits against the armor and one internal? The reason for the question is the rule that says internal damage bypasses armor and goes internal. Because of this, would all hits bypass armor and go internal? Then the question would become, why is it bypassing armor at all? Or what good is armor if it is going to be bypassed? I can understand 'shock' or 'system shock'...a power capble that was in need of repair and not replaced during standard cycle of preventive maintenance suddenly breaks or fries itself...but it still had to get through the armor.
Yeah, having a hard time wrapping my head around this...

If you have an older ship with Armor, thats been fitted with shields -- i.e. eagle when the shields take 10 or more and aren't totally destroyed the bleed through will hit internals and by-pass armor --
If shields are totally overwhelmed, then damage goes to Armor then internals ----

Bolo is correct. If you do 10 hits to the shield, 9 will go to the shield and 1 will burn-through.
If the shield is DOWN, then all hits go to armo(u)r until all the arm(o)ur boxes are disabled, then hits are distributed by the DAC.

No if you have just armor and no shields you do not get
(3C8) SHIELD BURN THROUGH All damage falls aginst just your armor.

That rule specifi Shield Burn Through Damage only not all damage.
(3D1) ARMOR States that All of the Armor must be disabled before any damage can be allocated to the ship itself. This does not include the effects of "burn through"
(3C8) which bypasses armor.

Just remember only Shield Overload Damage is arcing through your armor or causing a hull brace to buckle the armor it self is usually quite safe, Just ask the guy who invented the Bulletproof Vest. He Shot himself because he used the same vest to demonstart how it works over and over again until fatigue set in.

Thanks a bunch, guys. I hate to say this, but I always get into trouble trying to remember how armor works...so, again, thank you.

Easiest way to solve that is avoid ships with armor

Just for the record, Terry (and others) got it correct. I mention Terry, as his answer was short, sweet, and spot on.
