Base Coat Color for Romulan Ships

I'm heading over to Michaels.
Can anyone reccomend a brand of paint to get there for minis...? Also... if possible... a specific color to use for the base coat...? (Are Kestrels, Old Ships, and New Ships different...?)
Edit: Looks like a very light grey. Hmmm....
Edit 2: I kinda wanna spray paint the base coat. Is this a good idea? (Over a sprayed-on white primer coat?)

I have a light gray for my Romulans (sorry no pics), and it works really well. Some people go all white for the newer ships, and maybe a bit darker for the Kestrels (like in 'The Enterprise Incident"), but it's all a matter of taste, and much of the "official" artwork on ADB products is varied.
In terms of spraying the basecoat on, that's fine, just remember that if you use a "rattle-can" type paint and not an airbrush, you run the risk of not having the touch-up paint (if necessary) be quite the same as the basecoat. I've finally gotten tired of this and am going to be switching in the near future. We've talked about this a few times before, i just can't find the relevant threads right now.

Used light dove gray myself --- whether you can find it or not -- any light gray should do -- it your fleet its own special flavor --

Like Bolo...
I use Light Dove Grey for the upper surface of my Roms and a neutral white for the lower surfaces.

Just bought:
Krylon Matte Finish
Krylon Clear Glaze
Rustoleum Clean Metal Primer (white)
Rustoleum Automobile Primer (darke grey)
Loctite super glue (10 sec... longneck bottle)
X-acto knife
Still gotta get decals maybe.
I have PLAID brand Dolphin Grey and Delta Creamcoat Quaker Grey Acrylic Paint. They are probably 20 years old. Are these craft type paints okay...? They come in much bigger sizes than the WarHammer 40k paints. I'm not sure yet if I'll use these. Maybe I'll try 'em on my Kobalds first....
[I'm so excited-- I have a feeling some Romulan Ships will be in my stocking tomorrow.]

90% or more of the paints I use are Ceramcoat or Plaid brand, so... yes. Those brands will work.

Unless your painting for someone else and they just want a certain brand used, anything is good as long as it suits your style and is the color you want (when you can get it) ----
Way behind on painting (motivation just not there lately), have so many brands sitting around: Plaid, Folks, Testors, Polly S., Keepsake etc -- Acrylic and Enamel --

Who is the manufacturer of light dove grey?
My local hobby shops sell Model Master & Tamiya paints; I didn't see light dove grey from them in spray.
I use Gull Grey for my Mirror Universe Terran Empire ships but I want something lighter for my Romulans.

The Dove Grey I have is made by Grumbacher (comes in a 2 oz bottle)--
Don't recall where I got it, might find it in Walmart or more likely Micheal's ---

I concur re: Light Grey and highlight with white.
Just like Feds, really.

Not to confuse the issue, but I like to add a touch of green to my "Romulan Light Grey."
It helps differentiate them from the Feds.
