FC solo

Just for fun, and a little practice, I played Klingon Border's Planetary Rescue scenario solo. A Fed CA had to rescue 10 colonists from a planet with a Klingon D7 in the vicinity. The map was fixed, so not so much maneuvering room for the Klingons. This was a definate Federation advantage as the Klingons could not sabre dance and expect to win.

The Klingon did manage to shoot up 3 shuttlecraft, with no colonists on board though. The Fed managed to damage severely, but not cripple the D7. Lucky volley of overloaded photons while the D7 was on EM....3 out of 4 hit from range of 4  The Feds managed to rescue all 10 colonists with some damage.

I am amazed at how much the FC rules lend themselves to solo play. Would never even think of playing SFB solo. As all info is out in the open, one can just play both sides easily. When I did have some uncertain situations, I used percentile dice to determine movement hexes and if and when certain weapons would fire ect.

Not the same as face to face, but still lots of fun! :D

Thanks for the recap. I really enjoy reading these sort of things and learning from others.

You are right: FC does play solo well when you can't get live or PBEM opponents. That's how my daughter got into-she watched be play a solo game and wanted to play too.

Thanks for sharing!

There actually is a paper robot rule on the website (somewhere in the FC section) which gives you a fairly good workout in a typical duel.

Plasma is trickier to write robot rules for. Maybe somebody will, someday, but probably not me.
