Federation Commander

I've got a question about miniatures. I have some Gorn minis from the factory seconds, it seems that with the Battlecruiser and Light Cruiser figs, you can convert them to a medium cruiser and heavy destroyer respectively by filing off some phaser mount in front of the engines. I was wondering, is the whole bump supposed to be filed off? Or just the nipple? I think the nipple itself is actual phaser as seen around the rest of the model. But if that whole bump is the phaser housing logically a ship without a phaser there wouldn't have the bump either.

You can do anything you want; noting is "supposed" to be done. I don't want somebody to give up the game in frustration because filing the bump off is too much work. You can file off the small bump or the big lump or just paint over them.
