Yet more odd questions about counters

Okay, so I've been scanning in all of my counters from every game that I've had (They were all in a box all grouped together and stuff). Mostly this has been a backup function, as a lot of these counters are no longer in print and I still play these games from time to time, and the counters are getting a little threadbare.
Anyway, I scanned in all of my counters from SFB that I have had over the years (Some I purchased from the local bookstore without SSD's or rulebooks simply because they were SFB counters

)
There are a ton of abbreviations that I have no idea what they are (NCS? CMV?) I searched the NCC registry for these abbreviations and I couldn't find them anywhere. Is there any place where the actual abbreviations are listed? What would that document be called? I looked over the resources page... but not being sure what you would call a document which lists these things, I never really had luck finding what I was looking for.
And a second question (I'm trying not to flood the General Questions forum

) Is a New Scout (NSC) based on the New Light Cruiser hull? I can tell it has two warp nacelles, so it's probably not based on the Destroyer hull...
Thanks guys!
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

The NSC is the NCL-scout. I believe the NCS is the MCA-scout. Don't remember the CMV.

Is the CMV the GSC in a commando carrier role?

Guy, the best way to answer most questions like yours is with the G3 Master Annex File book. It lists every ship and all the details about it (at least things that aren't involved in SSD box-counts).

Thanks djdood! I'll look for that over on e23 (I have a...um... war going on with my wife about shelf space and books, so I'm temporarily forbidden from buying new books at the moment

).
And Also thank you mjwest and Sneaky Scot, It actually helped me ID a couple of strange counters on my board

Just scanned through my G3 Annex
A COV is a GSC used as a commando carrier not a CMV. I do not see a CMV on the list anywhere so I really do not know what it can be. Something in the back of my mind is saying it is a conjctural Carrier based on the OCL those it was thought of as a Medium Carrier but not sure why that is.

I have no idea what a Federation CMV could possibly be. What does the counter's silhouette look like? That would be a big help.

CMV is an incorrect designation for the COV (GSC commando variant).

Here is a scan of the CMV counter:
I can't tell if the protrusions on the saucer are sensor platforms (Ala a scout) or just printing errors. I got this counter along with three other sheets out of box while looking through stacks of old games at the local book/game/music store. They are marked "Star Fleet Battles Reinforcements" and the copyright date is 1984. They have colors I've never seen before (Kzinti usurpers (Orange) and Orions with a red stripe through them). There are no NCA's but there are NCL's, though the silhouette looks like a TT

You may need to think about buying a shed

Based on the counter image, I will agree with koogie. It is supposed to be the COV.

Right, that one is now corrected, it should be a Galactic Survey Cruiser variant. GSC's are the ones with the little sensor dishes on the saucer and it should read "COV":
(This is from a modified countersheet, obviously...

I'm leaving the original scans untouched).
Since we are talking about little sensor dishes, does a NSC look EXACTLY like a NCL except for sensor dishes (As in the example below)?
(I don't really have a reason for adding detail to the silhouettes on my modified sheets except that it makes it easier for me to see nacelles on top or bottom... well and it's kinda fun-

)

There are no NCA's but there are NCL's
The Fed NCA wasn't invented until the early-1990's, so that countersheet pre-dates it by about a decade.

I think the pointy corners on the saucer are more an artifact of the way the counters used to be made (bit maps, I believe). Many designations for ships were changed from the Commander's Edition to the Captain's (CMV to COV being one). I believe all the Fed saucers had those points, but I haven't used the old counters in a long time.
