I am a New Player just getting into FC. I was wondering which races fought on which side during the General War?

And, as many of the EMPIRES in question consisted of multiple races who had joined together... the proper terminology is Empire!

....but in a nutshell, the Alliance - Federation, Kzinti, Gorn, Hydran and (eventually) Tholians, vs. the Coalition - Klingon, Romulan, Lyran - and the Seltorians as a Klingon ally against the Tholians, as long as it suited both parties, and for different reasons on each side.

The ISC, Andromedans and WYN were not really involved in the General War.

The Vudar and LDR I'm not too sure on - perhaps another person more knowledgeable than I can fill in the blanks there

In the General War there were two alliances of empires called the Alliance and the Coalition. The Coalition (who started the war) comprised the Klingons, Romulans, and Lyrans. The Alliance comprised the Kzintis, the Federation, and the Gorns, and for a brief period the Tholians. The Hydrans were co-belligerents against the Klingons and Lyrans and so were sort of part of the Alliance. Everyone else was neutral. The Orions just robbed everyone as usual.

Edited to add: Vudar were a subject species of the Klingons, some Vudar ships saw action vs the Hydrans but the Hydrans tried to avoid antagonising them very much. Late in the war they declared their "neutrality", which suited the Klingons since it narrowed the fighting front, and the Hydrans did not want the Vudar fighting openly on the Klingon side. In reality this "neutrality" was a fiction.

LDR are neutral. Politically separate from the Lyran Empire proper, they got wiped out by the Andromedans later.
