[Rules] Shuttles and 'contact'

Checked the FAQ and Errata, didn't see anything on this and just need a sanity check.

ACTA:SF p20 - to recover a shuttle, it must move into 'contact' with any friendly ship. Likewise, a Suicide Shuttle attack can only happen when the SS is in 'contact' with an enemy ship in the End Phase.

I presume this refers to contact with the stem of the model (or the center of the counter), and not just the base?

No... it actually means in contact with the base.

An earlier draft of the rules had a bit more detail.
At one time, shuttles were armed with phaser-3s and could be used in defense of any ship they were in base contact with.
This led to ships traveling at speed 4 with a cloud of shuttlecraft sittign on its base and using it's p-3 against incoming drones / plasmas.

Thanks for the clarification - makes a big difference!

Followup - guess it's 2" bases all 'round, then. Good thing I'd only made a few templates...

That would be my guess, since everything in ACTA: Sf has a 2" base.
