Just wondering why there has never been an Arizona. Is it because it just hasn't come up yet or has it been intentionally omitted due to her tragic loss?

Typically (but not always), SFU ships are named for heroic action. Arizona is an honorable ship that died fighting, but circumstances didn't allow her to distinguish herself through courageous active action. She, like the Maine before her, are most remembered as tragic rallying cries.

We did not do an Arizona deliberately because there already is one (in Hawaii) and we did not want to dishonor the memory.

Thats what I thought SVC, thanks for clarifying that for me. My Grandmother's brother was on Arizona and a few of his items are at the memorial on display. I have always found the story of Dec. 7th to be fascinating because of the family connection.

Hard to summarize it in words, but I'll never forget my trip there while TDY to Hickam.

Hickam itself is a testament/memorial to that infamous day. The buildings still standing from that period are well maintained, but much of the bullet/cannon/shrapnel damage is still there as a reminder.

A bit unsettling walking down sidewalks with craters/holes from strafing runs and knowing my military predecessors and civilians lost their lives there.

Same thing for the Japanese memorials I visited will stationed there for nearly 12 years. Hell, my father-in-law had numerous scars from shrapnel wounds and burns he received as a kid from B-29 raids.

To this day Japan's EOD recovers numerous UXO...the most memorable for me was a 2000lb-er discovered while digging the foundation for the new hospital at Misawa AB, Japan. Hell of an evacuation cordon.

Wedge - You might be recalling the Class History article of the survey cruisers, from Captain's Log 41. Challenger is a Byrd-class galactic survey cruiser, along with Columbia. IIRC, both of them will never be used in official scenarios or fiction.

IIRC, Challenger was used in 1991 at Origins during (Beta) test of an early Role Playing in the SFU ---
