Federation Commander

Just got my Orion Attack. How do the cargo boxes outside the shields on the commercial platform work?

Does all damage hit them before the shields? Or does the attacker target them instead of the shields? Or does the defender choose to hit them instead of shields?

Are they standard for commercial platforms or are they options?

IIRC, they are free floating around the base and do not count toward it at all.

It seems it was a case of we have the room for them and someday may write a scenario about it. Just ignore them and pillage the platform.
