Been a while since I checked, but I think shields crackers and phasers count as 2 separate volleys do they not?, special shield cracker rules. So no burn through.

We checked during our game last night and Shield crackers are not a seperate volley. The shield crackers do not do internal damage, what we were wondering is do they add to a volley with any normal damage (even if it is just 1 point) to count for burn through.
It made me start thinking that maybe they should have a special firing strp, possibly during defensive fire; because in SFB they are fired just before the transporter step, way before any direct fire weapons, so they can down a shield and then send over the marines. That would also allow you to knock down a web and then fire through it.

Just checked. They are indeed a separate volley. Rule 4N1e says they are always resolved as separate volleys when used with other weapons.

ok thanks, i must have missed that. Will have to go look again now. They should have done that with all the weapons that can be seperate, like ESG and hellbores.

I may be wrong on this, but aren't all "heavy weapons" considered seperate volleys. Can anyone correct me on this?

Heavy weapons are not, as a general rule, separate volleys. So, firing disruptors + phasers or photons + phasers (at the same target in the same impulse from the same ship) are each a single volley of the combined total.
And the special cases are separate volleys when appropriate. So, shield crackers are separate volleys (4N1e), as already noted. ESGs (in offensive burst) are not a separate volley (5N2d), unless the other weapons in the volley are using directed targeting; in that case, ESGs are a separate volley (3D4d).
Hellbores (4K3f) and PPDs (4M3f) that strike the same shield facing as other weapons will combine into a single volley, while splash or wrap-around elements that strike other shield facings become separate volleys (one per shield facing taking damage).
Note hellbores can be covered by both of the last two cases. Since hellbores cannot use directed targeting (4K3f), they can be affected like an ESG.
Fun hellbore example: ship fires two hellbores and two phaser-1s at a target. One hellbore hits, doing 13 points of damage, and both phaser-1s hit for, uh, 4 and 3, totaling 7 points of damage. The hellbore does 7 points to the facing shield (let's say the #1 shield), and the other 6 points are distributed to the remaining five shields (let's say the #3 shield takes the extra point). The facing shield also takes the 7 points of phaser damage. That means there are six volleys: one volley that does 14 points of damage to the #1 shield, one volley that does 2 points of damage to the #3 shield, and four volleys that do 1 point of damage to the #2, #4, #5, and #6 shields.
However, if those phasers had been fired using directed targeting (and the damage and distribution was the same), then there would be seven volleys: one volley that does 7 points of damage to shield #1, another volley that does 7 points of directed damage to shield #1, one volley that does 2 points of damage to the #3 shield, and four volleys that do 1 point of damage to the #2, #4, #5, and #6 shields.
Does that help? (Or make it worse ...)
