When making a HET, do you still move one Hex first and then make the turn or do you stay in the same hex and make it?

I am not following the question.
Irrespective of HETs, you always turn, then move when making a turn. So, the ship will, in its starting hex for the sub-pulse, rotate to the new facing, them move forward. You never move forward, then make the turn.
When doing an HET, you simply do the HET at the same time as you would have if you were turning normally. So, you would rotate the ship to the new facing (from the HET), and them move.
Also, note that you don't have to move to do an HET. Even in a sub-pulse that you are not moving, you can perform an HET. In such case, you would simply rotate the ship to the new facing without moving it from the hex.

Ah. I see. We were doing that wrong then. We were moving and then turning. Not sure how we got that backwards, but there you go.
That bit about the HET when not moving might have actually saved the D7's butt in our game.

How does that Klingon proverb go?
Every Turn is a Good Turn to Die (and Learn)!
