Klingon Battlestation

I recently found a "Research Station" on shapeways that can be used as a fair approximation of the SFU Battlestation [BATS].

I bought one and painted it in Klingon livery for use in the Battle of Kh'rtis Rock scenario.
It still needs some minor detailing out, but here are some WIP pics for you.

Unfortunately... th mini in the FSW material (Flexible, Strong, White) is a bit grainy and I was in a hurry to get it done.
I should have spent more time sanding and priing ti to reduce the graininess inherent in the 3D printing process... but, live and learn.
The next will be prepped much better before painting begins!

I decided to have some fun with the docking hatch.
Although its not readily visible in these images.. .the interior door to the docking bay is painted in and you can see the yellow/black/yellow safety strips on the runway!

Don't change a thing, the graining gives it a ton of Klingon Character.

The grainy look is perfect on that miniature.

Haha.
I never thought of it that way.

So I leave the Klingons grainy...
I polish / sand the Federation BATS...
I flock the Kzinit / Lyran BATS with faux fur...
I set the Tholain BATS in the spidery corner of the garage for a week or two and then clear coat the webs to sela them in...
I simply use an empty base for the "cloaked" Romulan BATS...
And I glue sequins onto the Gorn BATS in a scale patten before priming / painting...
did I forget anybody?
Well, anybody important?

Well, if you're not concerned about us Orions, I'll guess all the paint splatters that fall on our black undercoats on your workbench will do for starfield paint jobs! :(

I agree with the other comments. That grainy look is perfect for the Klingon BATS. If anyone points it out and says you should have sanded or filed it, tell them how many hours it took you to get that look just the way you wanted it. :D

You could have spent more time sanding or filing, but it looks good as it is. It's a nice job.

So long as you're happy with how it looks, it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks of it. What other people think only matters for competitive painting, or if they're paying you to paint for them.

I would be quite happy with one that looked that good. You can always spend more time adding details to a miniature, but you have to decide when it's done enough to make you happy

Trail batch #whatever... # 7 or 8, I think... is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
Just waiting on a time when I have enough free time to actually mess with the ALPS.
It would have been tonight, but had 6 of us in the game room for a board game night. [Robo-Rally, Formula De, Zombies, and Scrabble]
