Federation Commander

Just ordered a box of FASA scale Star Trek Micromachines and I'm trying to find out if or how I can put them on a 1" hexbase for playing FedCom. They've got 3 of the Original Series (Fed Heavy Cruiser, Klingon D7, and Romulan Warbird) ships in the kit and I want to use them in a game.

Any ideas or has anyone done this before?

I use MicroMachines as my "demo" set.

I don't trust people I don't know with metal miniatures I have slaved over for hours each, so I wanted some durable "minis" that could take a tumble (or a pocketing) without crushing my soul.

The stand holes on the MicroMachines are pretty shallow, so I recommend drilling them deeper. If you are going to use the standard ADB black plastic stand risers, the pin at the top is too small for the MM's stand-hole. The easiest fix is to just snap those pins off (they tend to come off anyways) and just drill the MM's hole wider, to match the top of the stand riser.

The rubbery plastic used for the MMs is a little tougher to glue to the stand pegs. It seems to dislike cyanoacrylate ("super") glues. You can use it, but 2-part epoxy glues seem to be a better match. I also reocmmend roughing up both surfaces first.

How do you unbend them if they are bent? I've seen a lot of pictures of them with the nacelles bent.

Gently heat them in hot water...
Bend the pieces back into shape...
Hold them in position while you allow them to cool..

Or dunk them into cold water to "set" the plastic.

It shouldn't... or at least mine never has.
Maybe if you bent it double, the paint might crack and flake...

They're painted in enamels (most commercial products are), so water and hot-water won't do anything to them. But, like Tony said, bending them too much might crack/flake it.

So it's more like the paint on your car than the paint on your wall?
