I never noticed this before.

4B2f says each Phaser 3 shot of a Gatling Phaser only uses 1/4 point of energy rather than the normal 1/2 point cost of a Phaser 3.

This is not a typo in the rules, correct?

Not a typo. 1 point of power fires all 4 shots. One of the many reasons why people like Ph-Gs so much.

That's right. If you look at the ship cards you'll also note that hydran ships even with a 1 move cost have a 1/4 fractional track that others don't have to handle it.

Confirmed, gatlings are just cool.

Shame ya'll killed off the original Howlers in SFB.
