If I use an ESG Ram outside of an asteroid field that is an area terrain piece does it interact with the asteroids or is it only if I am in the field?

I think I'm understanding this:

"If you trigger an ESG while YOUR unit is outside an of the asteroid field and use it to maneuver (and ram) a target INSIDE an asteroid field, does the ESG interact with the asteroids?"
If this is what you are asking, then YES... the ESG will not 'skip' over the intervening asteroids to strike the target.
I will once again add verbiage clarifying this concept to the next draft.

I should have been clearer.

If I am outside an asteroid field but the Ram radius overlaps the area of the asteroid field terrain does it interact with the asteroids?

I am not targeting something in it just flying close to but outside it

Well... I'm wrong.
I reread the effects of Area Effect. That's not the proper trait after all.

It will remain Area of Effect (X) [with X being 4].
AoE was in an earlier version of ESGs. It most likely got moved to an earlier version of Special Traits and then was changed/ edited /?? and moved back to ESGs... then moved again - and never completed the move.

I will add AoE back in the new draft.
It is very similar to Area Effect (x). The only difference will be that all targets in the Area of Effect WILL BE hit. No need to roll to see if impact occurs.

Therefore, if the ESG expands into the asteroid field, the asteroids are in its area of effect and are indeed hit.

So don't set it off next to an asteroid field :-) Gotcha
