What if SFB went into the refit era? (Artwork)

This isn't serious, but I got a TON of requests on trekbbs.com to make schematics for SFB ships as if they were refit as per Star Trek: The Motion Picture. So, as they're done, I'll throw them up here.

Fun

Couple of items -

What's with the indent in the saucer section of most of the smaller ships? Just curious.

Also, I assume that the Kearsarge is supposed to be an NCL? How about doing a refitted Old Light Cruiser as well?

(yes, I know that the old CL is supposed to be an incredibly old hull...)

Actually, it's something I do for designs that are supposed to have uprated torpedo launchers, but didn't have them in the art. I felt the indent gives the ship a slightly meaner look without drastically altering its structure to accommodate the launcher.

Oh, I've been asked a lot for that, but I'm actually not sure what to do with the hull yet. It's tricksies. :)

Glorious work, Vanguard. (If you're not Neale, then Neale is going to be jealous.) You probably violated more Paramount copyrights than I can count, but still glorious.

I was wondering why the warp nacelles of the light cruiser are turned 90 degrees?

It's me, and thanks for the kind words.

And, I'm not too worried about Paramount, since I'm getting input from the guys who designed the ships themselves! They just seem happy to keep their designs alive. :)

I was trying to invoke a feel between the Constellation (the nacelle assembly) and the Soyuz (the turrets) to make the new light cruiser work. The NCA always seemed a bit more 'battle rushed' in design to me compared to the sleeker look of the CA series, and the Soyuz and Constellation were naturals to draw from.

If you had put those NCL engines at a slight angle, you would have perfectly duplicated the 'Firesoul' NCL from SFC:

I really like the slanted engines.

I've got nothing on the official models and designs from SFC, unfortunately. You're not the first person to point out that game's ships - but I don't have any information or artwork on them to go from.

Well, you now have at least one picture to go on. ;) I figured that you didn't have a reference point to a long OOP game, so that is why I included the image ...

Part of the reason people will make the link is that you and Firesoul basically had the same goal: reinterpret the classic SFB designs using Movie-era styles. Because of that, you are guaranteed to overlap. A lot.

(Also, keep in mind that these comparisons are likely between your and Firesoul's designs, not the native SFC designs.)
