Here is an operational base I am working on. I have a few feelers out there (including to SVC, although this is a better version) about the design as I've been told conflicting things. I wanted to see what the community thought.
Thanks!
Edit: Heard from the Steve's that this is too long! _________________

Honestly, it looks more like a pool floaty. |

"In case of water landing, pods can be used as a flotation device"!
This is a more accurate image of a set up Operational Base and an Operational Auxiliary.

Looks like we both favor a similar color scheme for differentiating different parts of our models.

Are either of you guys using Sketch-Up for your 3D art? _________________ Garth L. Getgen

I use Solidworks.
I dabbled in Sketchup and Geomagic/Alibre, but neither had the surfacing capability I need for what I do (not that the freighter model required it). _________________

Will, please send me yours for the clipart file.
Matthew, when you and Petrick reach consensus, I want it for the clip art file. _________________ The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

That is pretty funny, I wonder if there is some universal coding for the different software that chooses what color an object gets when you create it. I've started adding some texture to mine, so hopefully in a few days I can get a 'beauty' shot. _________________

Dunno if there is a standard. I mainly just try to pick contrasting colors for adjacent parts.
Once I have a pattern established, I tend to stick with it, so engines will probably be dark purple from now on, etc. _________________

Here's a textured version of the Operational Base, and if design approved I'll send some images in!

That's more like it. Much more intimidating. |

A little bit of paint helps for sure!
With the writing and such, this is obviously a Federation. I just slapped a random number on it 1-0715; I didn't see anything listed in the registry or ship name chart that showed how bases were designated, I imagine they would have to somehow. If this has ever been determined I'd love to know. Maybe by whatever sector it's deployed in? _________________

Looks very nice with some textures applied (and nice textures, by the way. Good subtle weathering and variation in them).
As far as numbering goes, the only thing I know of that is (peripherally) relevant is the numbering for the various pods in the Star Fleet Technical Manual (one of the source materials for SFB and the SFU). Those use NCC numbers, in the higher number blocks. I've never seen those numbers validated and/or discounted in the SFU.
For the decals I did for the mobile base I used STARFLEET LOGISTICS COMMAND as a banner text on the pods, emulating the STARFLEET TRANSPORT COMMAND that Franz Joseph used on the pods in the Tech Manual. _________________

After talking with the Steves, this is the end design. Changes were to the hanger augments with just a single bay. Then adding shuttle hatches to the base itself, one on top and one on the bottom. These are labeled A & B as opposed to the hanger augments with 1 & 2.
